Climate change, flooding and financial collapse - Göteborg

3 november, 2008 - 10:50

Open seminar with Professor Crawford Buzz Holling, winner of the Volvo Environment Prize 2008.

Crawford Buzz Holling, a Canadian ecologist and researcher, is perhaps best known as the person behind resilience theory. Resilience theory describes the capacity of a social and ecological system to handle shocks, such as climate change or a financial crisis, and to subsequently renew and rebuild itself.

Researchers, decision-makers and urban planners focus on the concept of resilience from different perspectives. What does research say about how systems collapse and recover and how can our politicians and urban planners make use of this in their day-to-day work?

The seminar will be held in English.
